

On, November 30, 2015, Doris G. Bernstein of Chevy Chase, MD. Preceded in death by her husband Sheldon E. Bernstein and granddaughter Rachel V. Mann. Devoted mother of Susan Bernstein Mann (John Schumacher), Steven H. Bernstein (Mary Dolbashian); grandmother of Lisa Bernstein Perkett (Brandon), Matthew T. Bernstein (Morgan), Debra Monaco, and Michael Mann; great grandmother to Jessica Mann, Robin Monaco, Zachary Monaco, Alexander Monaco, Dillon Bernstein, Hunter Bernstein, Victor Sheldon Mann. Doris was born in Chicago on Sept. 13, 1915, in the era when women could not vote. She survived two World Wars and endured the Great Depression. Doris eloped from Chicago to be married and settle in Washington, DC, where she lived until 1975. She then moved to Florida for 25 years and then back to DC. She never lost her positive attitude, having enjoyed a full 100 years - living life to the fullest to the very end. She was an active volunteer, serving as President of Washington's Service Guild, a legal aide volunteer, hospital candy striper and a busy mom/director. A positive thinker, Doris kept charge of her family until the end as her family was her most important asset in life.A funeral service will be held at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW, Washington DC on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA. Shiva will be observed from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday following the service at the home of Susan Mann, 12645 Travilah Rd., Potomac, MD 20854.
