So sorry to learn of Edward's passing. I used to handle some of his finances at my prior firm and we'd share stories of both of our respective times in Great Neck. His work anniversaries at FERC were still popping up on LinkedIn and I had no idea he had passed, but realized that he hadn't responded to my last two yearly posts and the rest was unfortunately easy to discover.  Sincere belated condolences to his family and may his memory be a blessing.

I met Edward at the internship fair at the Ronald Regan Atrium Hall building in D.C. in 2019. He told me about the FERC, the work he does there and about the Student Trainee (Energy Industry) Internship since I was still a college student at the time. I never worked with him but from our interaction, he was so kind, knowledgeable, and always encouraged me to work for the FERC. I'm so sad to hear of his passing! Edward was such a kind soul and while I didn't deeply know him, I could tell that he was a man of great character who treated everyone he met with respect. May he rest in peace and my condolences to his loved ones. 

I am so sad to learn that Edward has left us.  I knew something must be wrong when he didn't respond to my most recent postcard. He was a friend through our connection to Middlebury and I visited him several times in Washington DC. He was full of stories and always eager to discover and learn. He sent me articles on topics he knew I cared about and was a great correspondent. I loved how he always saw connections to those in his vast network--in his view, we were all practically related. His work on the CFC was amazing --helping to raise significant support for myriad nonprofits!  Rest in peace my friend--you will be missed!

My sincere condolences to Edward's family and friends. Edward and I met on a travel tour in Canada. He was with his dear friends, Mary and Peter Brescia. Edward and I maintained a long correspondence and friendship. As so many others have tenderly expressed, Edward was a loyal friend and lively correspondent. I will miss him greatly.

Edward devoted his inquisitive mind not to self-aggrandizement but to kindness and good cheer.

Edward was my neighbor and continued as friend and correspondent.  He was a friend to so many and I miss his wide-ranging stories and his appetite for people and places.

I, like many others, met Edward at FERC.  While we did not interact too often, every interaction with him was so pleasant and you walked away a little happier every time after having such pleasant conversation.  He made conversation effortless with anyone and truly made you feel at ease and comfortable.  He worked tirelessly leading FERC's Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and led FERC to many accolades in this regard.  Most importantly, he had such a kind soul.  He will be truly missed.   

Edward and I met two years ago through Internaional House DC Alumni network at a summer picnic in the Rock Creek Park in Washington DC. He was talkative and thoughtful. Our friendship started there and continued as he and I participated in more I-House activities. Edward is remembered as a warm-hearted soul. 

I'm heartbroken.  The world needed more of Edward, not less.  He showed me what it meant to be genuinely kind, curious, and thoughtful.  I promise to pay it forward and help others in the ways he helped me.

Edward, you will be missed and always remembered.

I'm very sorry for your loss. This is a photo Ed sent me of one of several get-togethers with deans from the University of Wisconsin. He will be missed. 

Sincere condolences to the family of my lovely friend Edward.  I will remember him by his famous expression "we are practically related".  

I'm Irish by birth and moved to Washington DC in 2005 with a new job.  I moved into the Towers Condos where Edward resides about 7 years ago and got to know him on our shared bus route (N2) to downtown Washington DC.  Such a welcoming and social man! We worked about a block apart so walked the same route which he said brightened his morning (and surely did mine).     We took the early (6.30 am) bus and enjoyed many great conversations and had a group of loyal, fun friends in our little N2 circle.  I loved all his stories of his travels, people he met, places he stayed, trips he loved most, and events he attended.  I particularly remember him telling me the story of his trip on the steamship “America” from Cobh Harbor.

He took great pride in his job and even more so in his annual CFC Campaign work.  He was so proud of receiving the Spirit of Service award.  He loved conferences, gaining new experiences, meeting people, and sharing knowledge with colleagues and interns whom he saw as successors.  Edward was in no hurry to retire.  I recall him saying before Covid how he would rather continue working as he loved being around people!  I met him several times in our building during covid and he was doing well, getting his walks in and keeping up with work emails. 

Ed was gentle, kind, funny, gracious, giving, and appreciated everything you gave him.  I brought him back gifts from Ireland which he would say were in his cabinet of treasured possessions.  He spoke proudly of his parents (RIP) and growing up in NY and was so proud of his brother and nephew in Florida, valuing all reunions so much.

I will remember Ed with great affection.  May he rest in peace. He leaves behind friends and colleagues who will never forget him.

I will truly miss Edward. He was really the nicest person I ever met. Everytime I saw him in the FERC elevator my day was just so much happier. Ed was really loved and will really be missed by his FERC family.

Edward was a champion in every sense of the word.  I met him when I started at FERC in 2001.  Always a friendly face and when they had Spanish classes, he was my teacher.  He did this on his lunch time.  He loved helping everyone.  Over the past 10 years or more, he spear headed our agency's Combined Federal Campaign.  He led every volunteer and set up bi-monthly visits with a charity to show us why they are in need of donations.  The charities he showcased were always deserving and Edward had done his homework.  He was well loved and respected by all of his colleagues.  Edward will be missed dearly... Vaya con Dios Eduardo.. 

I worked with Edward for several years.  After I retired we talked and kept up with what we were doing with our lives.  He was a wonderful gentle man.   I will miss you my friend 🙏RIP. Linda Zarow

I aspire to live these words of wisdom.
Occasionally, I have come across individuals embodying them.  In 2016, while working on Combined Federal Campaign, I was fortunate enough to meet such a man, Dr. Edward G. Gingold.  
 
Over the past six years, I was privileged to learn from Dr. Gingold and grow to call him a friend.  He was a scholar, gentleman, Public Servant, and a prized friend to many people across the world.  He led a brilliant life (12/23/1944 – 4/12/2022) inspired by service, care, connections, friendships, and the love of life and people.  Many times, I have seen him befriend a stranger in minutes and start a new connection with his famous saying “We Are Practically Related”. 

He lives in the many hearts and minds he has touched and inspired.  

You are loved and remembered Eddie.

Edward and I were practically related.  He loved Bing Cherries and my hometown of Spokane, Washington and our Gonzaga Prep/High School connection.  I was his Loaned Executive during the 2016 Combined Federal Campaign and it was a perfect match.  Edward is one of the most special people I will ever meet and I feel a bit lost without him in our world.  Edward was the kindest and most decent man and my memories of him, and a saved voice mail, will sustain me until we meet again.

Our Uncle Eddie visited us several times and we visited him in the States, which we always enjoyed due to his funny stories and memories he shared with us. We have never met someone with such a great memory and humor - he will truly be missed and we we will always remember his clean, punctual and intelligent character, as he described himself. Edward and I have been friends since 1966 when we met aboard the Queen Mary, on which Edward traveled to Europe to take up his studies in Spain.  We have met countless times ever since, both in the USA and in Europe. I have lost one of my closest friends, a noble character and excellent scholar.
