Evangelos Antonios Koroulakis was born on June 24, 1942, in Rhodes, Greece, to Antony and Eleftheria Koroulakis. Known for his warm heart, kindness, and fun-loving sense of humor, Evangelos was loved by all his friends and family.
After losing his father as a young teenager, Evangelos demonstrated great strength and responsibility, taking over his father's barber shop in Old Town Rhodes while caring for and supporting his mother and 3 younger siblings. Even at a young age, he understood the importance of family and the value of hard work. At the age of 27, he immigrated to the United States with his mother to begin a new chapter and start a life filled with new opportunities. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Katerina, with whom he built a loving home and raised their two daughters, Panayiota and Rinoula.
Evangelos was a devoted husband and an extremely proud, loving father who worked tirelessly alongside his wife to provide for his family. His greatest joy was his family, and he cherished the close-knit bonds they shared. Being Katerina’s and Manoli’s grandfather brought him all the happiness in the world. He helped raise them, reading and playing with them daily throughout their early childhood and was their beloved “Pappouli”. Seeing his grandchildren was always the highlight of his day, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
His faith and love for God were a very important part of his life. His faith provided him with strength and guidance throughout his journey, and he carried those values of kindness, humility, and devotion to the way he lived and cared for his family.
He will be fondly remembered for his funny jokes and stories that brought laughter to family gatherings, especially during the holidays. His quiet, gentle, caring, and accepting nature made everyone feel welcome and loved. In his quieter moments, he enjoyed working endless hours on his crossword puzzles (his favorite present hands down was always “Skandinavika” from Greece), sharing stories, and simply spending time with those closest to him.
Evangelos leaves behind his beloved wife, Katerina; his daughters, Panayiota and Rinoula with his son-in-law Nicholas; his cherished grandchildren, Katerina and Manoli; his brother Ioannis and sister-in-law Eleni; his nieces and nephews: Constantine, Eleni, Antony, Dionysios, Eleftheria, along with their families and many additional nieces and nephews in Greece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleftheria and Antony, and his sisters, Maria and Popi.
Evangelos will be remembered for his generous heart, his quiet strength, the laughter he brought to those around him and most of all, the love he shared with his family and especially his grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. May his memory be eternal.
In lieu of flowers friends and family are welcome to make a memorial contribution to Saint Sophia Cathedral in memory of Evangelos Antonios Koroulakis.
