

Died peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2013 in Washington, DC after a heroic battle with colon cancer. Born on March 18, 1934 and raised on a farm in Goochland County, VA where he learned the value of hard work. He attended Central High School in Goochland, VA and Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA.
He retired from the U.S Postal Service, after 32 years of dedicated service, where he was recognized for his outstanding managerial skills. He was an avid gardener and loyal Redskins and Nationals fan.
He was a devoted husband to the late Sylvia Rice and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. George is survived by his brother, Calvin, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Fleming; six children, Michael, Russell (Marian), Vicki (James Weiner), Wanda (David Gasperetti), Carla (Patrick Norman), Martin (Ava); nine grandchildren, Lauren and Blair Fleming, Phillip and Lily Gasperetti, Christopher and Andrew Norman, Bria Scott Fleming, Ronald Barnes, Matthew and Nadia Fleming; and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Mendoza and Cylan Gage Stringfield along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Sunrise Senior Living, 5111 Connecticut Ave, NW, Washington, DC at 2 p.m. Neighbors, friends, and caregivers are all welcome.
