George was born in Lviv, Ukraine, on May 5, 1943, to Jaroslawa and Basil Kinal. He and his parents immigrated to the U.S. when he was still an infant. George grew up in Yonkers, NY. He graduated from HS and matriculated at MIT. George held an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from MIT (1965), a masters in electrical engineering from Stanford (1967) and a masters in computer sciences from Georgetown (1978). He was the president of Phi Kappa Sigma and remained a lifelong supporting member. He had a distinguished career as an aerospace and satellite communications engineer at COMSAT, INMARSAT (London, England) and MITRE.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Chrystyna, and his children, Juliana Ballard (John) and Julian Kinal (Therese) and his grandchildren Justine and Jackson Ballard.
