Gregory Reed Corr passed away peacefully at home on Sunday September 28th, 2025, following a six-week hospitalization and diagnosis of a very aggressive and advanced lung cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Marie Tschantz, adoring children Evalyn Grace Corr and Liam Charles Corr, his beloved dog Scout, in-laws James and Eva Tschantz, Amy and Mark Troxell, Victoria Tschantz, nephews Ethan and Owen Troxell, his Coghlan cousins, and countless friends, neighbors and colleagues.
Gregg was born on a snowy day December 8, 1951 in Southington, CT to Alice May Reed Corr and Charles John Corr. During his first year of life his family moved to the Midwest where Gregg grew up in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Gregg earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University and a Master’s and Doctorate in Education Policy from the University of Cincinnati. He began his career as the director of an advocacy organization in Louisville, Kentucky, protecting the rights of students with disabilities. In 1987 he had the opportunity to move to Washington DC and become part of a new office that would monitor the States on the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This move led to a 38-year career at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) where he ultimately led the Monitoring and State Improvement Planning (MSIP) division. When he retired last December, he reflected to his team that “My time in OSEP has been nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve had the privilege of visiting nearly every state, connecting with State offices, local programs, parents, and advocates. These experiences have been deeply inspiring and have strengthened my belief in the importance of the work we do. Hearing firsthand from families about the impact of our efforts has been both humbling and motivating. Over the years, I’ve witnessed remarkable progress in the field, yet I know there is still so much more to achieve.”
Gregg loved his family, friends, music, a good (or even not-so-good) Chardonnay and sunsets at Lake Chautauqua, NY. He loved playing his guitars, going to concerts, riding his bicycle, watching the Nats (although not this year!) and his beloved Buffalo Bills, but most of all he loved connecting with friends and family. And the two people he loved connecting with most were Evie and Liam. Becoming a father in his mid-50s was the highlight of his life. He adored his kids and was so proud of the young adults they are becoming!
We know Gregg’s kind demeanor touched so many people. For those of you who are interested, we are raising money and will be participating in the Lungevity Breath Deep Together Event on November 8th on the Washington Mall to continue lung cancer research that provided treatment options for Gregg.
