

Jackie was born to the late Hermann and Angela (Emig) Hegner on November 18, 1932 in Bethany, West Virginia. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she met the love of her life. Jackie was united in marriage with Ronald J. Dunlavey on December 29, 1956 in Wellsburg, W.Va. Ron and Jackie were married for 44 blissful years until Ron passed away on April 17, 2000. Jackie was also preceded in death by her sisters Susanne and Margot and her brother Leon. She is survived by her four children, Brian (Diana), Norah (Nicholas), Colin (Liz), and Brigid (Chet), as well as numerous grandchildren.
Jackie was an active homemaker after her children arrived, and was a wonderful cook and avid gardener. She traveled with Ron several times when he went abroad for his job with the Voice of America, and her interests and hobbies are too numerous to list. Dinners with Ron and Jackie were legendary for all who knew them, and her house provided a haven for family and friends alike. After the children were raised, she was active in the National Herb Society, serving in various roles including several years as Historian of the Potomac Chapter.
Family and friends are invited to visit at her home at 3411 15th St. NE, Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 14th from 2-7. A funeral service will begin on Monday April 16th at 10 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on 12th St. in Brookland, followed by interment at Rock Creek Cemetery.
