Jim was a great American. I remember my parents telling me that Jim and his sister Audrey were models to emulate. My parents and Jim’s were close friends.

My grandfather was an endless reservoir of information and always happy to listen, teach, tolerate, and collaborate. One of my favorite memories was when he would give my brother and me a "tour" of the Washington Monuments when driving us from the airport on our yearly visits. The Washington Monument was "The Big Pencil" and Maryland was, of course, named after our grandmother Mary Beggs.

He was a kind man who led an extraordinary life, adored his family and created such a home that every part of that family continues to come back to come back together regardless of how far away any of us travel.

It tears my heart to say goodbye but it makes me happy to think that, maybe, he, Mary, and Katie have all found each other in whatever lays beyond.

All my love forever and ever.

NASA Administrator Jim. Beggs was on site at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center for a Shuttle Orbiter landing at Edwards AFB. I spent most of the day with him. He must have trusted me; he gave me his Stetson to hold while he was on the dais, welcoming the crew back to earth. He told me "this was the best thing happening in America today." He was an American hero himself, a leader of a great aerospace company, and a strong patriot. He defended America and advanced aerospace technology to keep us safe, and preeminent in the world. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, and also by all those who knew him. May God care for his family always. Kenneth Szalai, former Director, the NASA Flight Research Center, now named after Neil Armstrong.

Jim was the son of my fathers boss for many years including their relocations to Dallas in around 1931. I knew him as this incredibly bright nice guy who excelled at every thing and then the Naval Academy and then in Rickovers Group. When he became NASA Administrator underPresident Reagan, I was proud to have known and admired him. He was an outstanding Public Servant who probably saved the development of the USA Space Shuttle program, i will cherish my memories of Jim and his sister Audrey. Just a fine human being who will be missed

It is with great sadness that I digest the news of Mr Beggs passing . I am proud to say I am part of the NASA family honored to have been around him . I am one of many , long ago ,as a young civil servant that had the opportunity and challenge of briefing Mr Beggs on occasion. Fearful , it was never easy , but Mr Beggs never made it difficult. He was a good man . The Nation has lost a great man ! Peace to all of his family .
