James Joseph Phelan

Of Potomac, MD died September 19, 2015 after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born in Rockville Centre, NY, he was the beloved husband of Kathleen McGrath Phelan for 26 years; and devoted father of two sons, John Morgan "Jack" Phelan and Peter O'Brien Phelan. He was the son of Madeleine "Mimi" Phelan Welsh and the late Robert T. Phelan. He is also survived by his sister, Jody Phelan Cooney and his brothers, Gerard T. Phelan and Robert M. Phelan.

Jimmy was a loyal graduate of the Cranwell Preparatory School, Lenox, MA and a proud graduate of Georgetown University, where he was a member of the varsity lacrosse team. He was on the President's Council of Catholic Charities and a committed supporter of the Washington Jesuit Academy in Washington, DC. He had a 40-year Wall Street career, most recently with The Washingtonian Group at UBS Financial Services in Washington, DC.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Dr., Potomac, MD on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1 p.m.
