Jane W. North of Bethesda MD passed peacefully on August 31, 2025. Born on October 14, 1931 in New Haven CT, Mrs. North was a loving wife, mother and active community member. She possessed a vibrant spirit and drive recognized by all who knew her. After graduating from Vassar College in 1953, she taught high school and middle school before starting a family. She was dedicated to preserving and sharing history with those in the DC area. In the 1970s, she was key in developing the docent program at the Smithsonian Museum of American History. She later became Executive Director of the Historical Society of Washington DC and then Development Director at the Montgomery County Historical Society. She was a Professional Washington DC Tour Guide and served a term as President of the Guild of Guides. She continued guiding tours into her 80s. She also served on several neighborhood and educational committees throughout her life. She enjoyed the company of and entertaining her many friends. Mrs. North was predeceased by her husband, Dr. A.F North Jr. She is survived by her children, Lindsay North, Bob North (Laura), and Kath Creel (Silas), four grandsons and 2 grand-daughters-in-law.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, September 29, 2025 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle St. NW, Washington DC.
