JEAN ANNE DUNKELBERGER 1933- 2018
On Sunday, June 10, 2018, Jean Anne Dunkelberger passed peacefully in the company of her five children, 17 grandchildren and her loving husband holding her closely. Jean Anne and Ed Dunkelberger were days away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. She died with dignity and grace by the side of the people she loved and cared for during her more than eight decades of life. Jean Anne was born in Buffalo, New York on February 12, 1933, to Billie and Eugene Driscoll. Her father, Gene Driscoll, was her hero and an All-American linebacker and guard on the Georgetown University football team. Jean Anne spent most of her childhood growing up in Buffalo, New York and as a young woman moved to Washington, DC to work for U.S. Senator Frederick Payne of Maine. Jean Anne eventually met her future husband, Ed Dunkelberger and was married on June 14, 1958, in Bethesda, Maryland. They immediately started building their life and family. Ed began what would be a 40+ year law practice at Covington & Burling and Jean Anne began her successful career as the matriarch of the Dunkelberger family. For many years, Jean Anne was involved in charitable activities including the March of Dimes, Stone Ridge Christmas Bazaar and assisted in development programs at schools in the area. She was an avid tennis player, gardener, hand at bridge and a master needlepoint artist. She created hundreds of handcrafted items including needlepoint belts, Xmas stockings, vests, cumber buns and pillows for her home, children, and grandchildren. Jean Anne was a woman of deep faith and devoutly committed to the Catholic Church and her family. She is survived by her loving husband Ed Dunkelberger; five children Anne Worthy (Skeeter), Amy Sturtevant (Stick), Teddy Dunkelberger (Beth), Sally Daniel (David), Emily Cunniff (Chris); and her 17 grandchildren; Eleanor, William, Caroline, Kate, Peter, Edward, Dillon, Reeves, Sophie, Henry, Callen, Brooke, Sarah, Clare, Annie, Mark, and Sean. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, June 13 at Little Flower Church, Bethesda, MD. Family visitation will begin at 3 p.m. and funeral mass at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Charities.Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, June 13 at Little Flower Church, Bethesda, MD. My condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one. Losing someone you love is truly difficult and I know Jean will be missed. Please know our Heavenly Father holds out promises that can help us with our sorrow. One such promise is that death soon will be done away with forever (Revelation 21:4) and another promise is that "there is going to be a resurrection." (Acts 24:15) I pray these promises from God, who cannot lie, (Titus 1:2) bring you comfort.
