Jean Landon Fri passed away the night of May 17th, 2026, in her sleep, in her room at Ingleside-Rock Creek in Washington, DC. She joins her late husband, Robert W. Fri, and is survived by her sons, Perry (Sarah), Sean and Kirk; and her granddaughters, Katie Mace (Kyle) and Leah.
Known to her friends as Jill, she was born March 18, 1932 in West Virginia, the daughter of William ‘Leo’ Landon and Frances Colville Landon. She grew up with her twin brother, Jack, and her younger brother, Bill. She studied at West Liberty University, where she learned to be a radiology technician. It was this work that brought her to DC, leaving home to work for the National Institutes of Health.
Her long love of acting and the theater led her to meet Mr. Fri when they were both members of the Mount Vernon Players, a community theater company near Mount Vernon Square in DC. She continued acting on and off at the Little Theater of Alexandria, and well as the Bridge Street Players which performed in Georgetown Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.
Jill was very active with the church itself, attending services regularly for decades. She served on the Session as well as Search Committees for new pastors, was very active in archiving church history, and served on several organizational committees. She was also the church’s business manager for a while, and later consulted on business affairs for the National Capital Presbytery.
A private service will be held with the family at a later date. Condolences may be sent, care of her son Sean at 7203 Spruce Avenue, Takoma Park MD 20912, although we ask that no flowers be sent.
