

As wife, mother and volunteer, Joan devoted much of her life to supporting the arts, including many years of service on the Women’s Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra and the Women’s Committee of the Corcoran Gallery of Arts in Washington, D.C. She was the chairman of the Corcoran Ball in 1991. She also supported The Washington Home, serving as a member of the board of directors of Entertaining People, and the National Symphony Orchestra, serving as co-chairman of the Pension Benefit Concert in 1983 and on the Symphony Ball Committee in 1982, 1985, 1992 and 1993.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Joan attended Beaumont School for Girls in Cleveland and graduated from Barat College with a B.S. in 1954. She was a Home Economist and Director of Kitchen Design for the East Ohio Gas Company from 1954-1956.
In her spare time, Joan loved cooking, gardening and playing tennis. She was a member of the the Sulgrave Club and the Chevy Chase Club, and, for many decades, a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club and the Chappaquiddick Beach Club.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Quigley, her parents, Mildred Holland Reifke and Dr. John T. Reifke, and her sisters Nancy R. Sindelar and Rosemary R. Low.
She is survived by her children, Thomas J. Quigley, Joan E. Quigley, and James S. Quigley, as well as by four grandchildren, a step-grandchild and a great-grandchild.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
