John D. Greenwald, a distinguished public servant and member of the international trade bar, died unexpectedly on September 1, 2015, after a short illness. A graduate of the University of North Carolina and Columbia Law School, he served as Deputy General Counsel at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and first head of the Import Administration in the Department of Commerce. After leaving the government, he was a leader of the international trade practice and partner first at WilmerHale and then at CassidyLevyKent. He will be greatly missed for his wit, elegance, loyalty and decency by his daughter, Kitty, his sons, Nick, Xico and Johnny, his grandchildren Imogen, Fabian and Jack, his siblings Jane and Bruce and his many friends. His beloved wife of forty-one years Teresa predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12 at 1pm at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street, N.W., Washington D.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to WETA or the Washington Literary Council.
