John Elliott Merrell

John Elliott Merrell passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011 at his home in Bethesda, MD, of prostate cancer at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosalyn Rollo Merrell. Formerly of Potomac, MD, he was also a resident of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He was a native of Utah and has lived in the DC area for the past 45 years. He was employed by the Federal Government as an administrator for both the Department of the Interior and earlier the Department of Justice.

He is also survived by his daughter, Melisse of Fort Collins, CO; his three sons, Michael of Seattle, WA; Myles and his wife, Heidi, of Chevy Chase, MD; and Matthew and his wife, Tracy, of North Bethesda, MD; his two sisters, Carolyn Summerhays of Tampa, FL, Marcia Eyre of Nephi, UT, and his brother, Bruce Merrell of Mercer Island, WA.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday afternoon, September 8, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Hermon Presbyterian Church, 7801 Persimmon Tree Lane, Bethesda, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
