Melvin and Christine Gertrude Wingfield were married at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Washington, DC. They were married for 56 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and family man. He was a devoted Catholic and staunch supporter of education - especially Catholic education.
Melvin was a product of the District of Columbia Public Schools. He served in the United States Army. He was employed as a professional driver by Sears & Roebuck and Saint Albans School. During his retirement, Christine and he attended numerous courses at the University of the District of Columbia. They also traveled extensively in America and abroad.
Melvin was an avid mechanic, wood craftsman and plumber. These are skills that he learned under his father’s tutelage. Melvin shared this knowledge with Jerome and Joseph Melvin Jenifer, Jr.
Joseph Melvin Jenifer, Sr. is survived by his wife Christine Wingfield Jenifer (wife), Joseph Melvin Jenifer, Jr. (Son), RoxAnne Felicia Johnson-Jenifer (daughter-in-law) and Mikalah Inez Johnson Jenifer (granddaughter). Also, he is survived by James Edward Jenifer, Jr.( brother), Marie F. Durant-Jenifer (sister), Robert David Jenifer (brother) and Jerome Queen Jenifer brother. He was preceded in death by Francis DeSales Jenifer, his brother who died in infancy.
On June 19, 2018 at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia, Joseph Melvin Jenifer, Sr. passed away in the company of his wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
