On Thursday, March 15, 2012, Joe departs this life at Howard County General Hospital. Joe leaves to mourn his beloved wife Barbara; sons Joseph Jr., Rene, Orville, Kevin, and Reynard; daughters Estrelda, Sharron, and Japella. He is survived by 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and other relatives and friends. The late Mr. Smith will lie in state at the Mount Airy Baptist Church, 1100 North Capitol St. N.W. Washington, DC 20002. Family hour @9am, Services will begin @ 10am, Friday March 23, 2012. Interment: Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. Services entrusted to Joseph Gawler’s Son’s.
