Joyce McCabe Hessler

Formerly of Chevy Chase and Ocean City MD, passed away on March 1, 2012 in Sarasota, Florida. She attended Immaculata Preparatory High School and Junior College as well as Notre Dame Academy in Washington. She married her high school sweetheart David in 1951 and raised her family on Stephenson Place NW. While working as a State Farm Insurance office manager for over 30 years, she was active in her community and church. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, gin rummy, Christ Child Society, Blessed Sacrament Sodality and most especially being a Nana. She loved the beach her whole life, and was happy to call Ocean City and Siesta Key Florida home in retirement. She is survived by David J. Hessler, her husband of 60 years, daughters Louise M. Van Hooser (Robert J.) of Burke, VA and Diane M. Hessler of Cape Elizabeth, ME and three grandchildren, Robert David (Amanda), Kathryn Louise, and Elizabeth Marie Van Hooser.

Friends will be received at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016 on Thursday March 8, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street NW, Washington, DC 20015 on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Child Society, 5101 Wisconsin Avenue NW, #304, Washington, DC 20016 or the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association , 14010 Roosevelt Blvd., Suite 709, Clearwater, FL 33762.
