Linda J. Morgan, 63, of Bethesda, MD, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on November 4, 2015. She had struggled intermittently with steadfast determination against triple-negative breast cancer since 2011 and, ultimately, passed from disease complications. Over the course of her life, Linda touched the lives of many. She was an active member of her Sidwell Friends School, Vassar College and Georgetown Law alumni communities, trustworthy friend, and devoted wife to Michael Karam and adored mother by Meredith Karam. Not a day went by when Linda did not think of her family and how she could make the lives of those around her better.

In addition to her personal life, Linda had a successful professional life. She practiced law in Washington, DC, and was a member of the Canadian Pacific Railroad Board of Directors. She was the first female General Counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and served as the last Chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission and the first Chairman of the Surface Transportation Board. She was a devoted public servant and work was her life’s vocation. Her family, friends, and colleagues will miss her insightfulness, determination and integrity, and always cherish the times they shared with her. To honor Linda’s life, the family will receive friends at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW (corner of Harrison Street), Washington, DC. (Valet Parking) on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm and from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, MD on Wednesday, November 11 at noon. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the breast cancer research program at Sibley Memorial Hospital in memory of Linda Morgan (https:\\\in-memory-of-linda-morgan), Montgomery Hospice, or the Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

Family and friends are invited to visit for additional information or to leave an online condolence.

Dear Michael and Meredith and family: I am so crushed to learn of Linda's passing in the latest Georgetown Law Magazine. We met as students in law school. Her contagious smile and sparkling personality lit up every room. She always made others feel good about themselves. I followed her impressive career mostly from a distance here in CT until we both were engaged in transportation issues at the same time - she as General Counsel of Senate Commerce and then Chairman of the Surface Transportation Board, etc. and me as Transportation Chair in the CT House and NCSL Transportation Chair in Washington as a CT state legislator. Linda was so knowledgeable, and enthusiastic and resourceful in her assistance to me in my role. She really went out of her way to be helpful and, of course, with her smile and her incredible "smarts." As you know, she was a person of the highest integrity. Linda deserved to live for another 30 years, at least. But, she accomplished more in her 63 years than many do in a lifetime. I am so sorry for your loss and for her suffering with this terrible disease. She must now be one of the brightest lights in heaven!

Michael and Meredith: I've only just learned of Linda's death in November. She remains one of the brightest memories I have of our time together in college. It was a privilege and an honor to be present at her wedding to you, Michael. And I was glad to meet you Meredith one evening long ago when I was visiting family in Alexandria. I am so sorry. I am so very sorry to learn of Linda's passing, and I send my heartfelt condolences to her husband and daughter and all her family. We were classmates back at Georgetown University Law Center, and I always looked forward to seeing and talking to Linda at reunions and events at the Law Center. A few years ago we were on a panel together at the Women's Law Alumnae Forum, and we had a great time talking about our experieces and catching up on each other's careers. Linda was a lovely person and her passing is so very sad. Again, my condolences to her family.

Wow! What a shock to pick up the Friends Alumni Magazine and see Linda was gone! I did not know her well, but she was one of my classmates I wanted to get to know much better. How sad I will not get a chance, now! I loved looking at the photo album - gave me a sense of her life and those close to her! My heart goes out to all those who hold Linda dear! May her love and your cherished memories sustain you as you grieve the loss of the precious being that she was.
