You were my mother’s best friend and closest confidant.  Your relationship with her was one of her purest and provided her with so much joy, stability, and love.  You are the pinnacle for what it means to be a good friend.  When I’ve spoken with Thomas about friendship, the most important question is always, “Do you think they’re your Lotty?”  I hope we both have the blessing of finding our Lotty someday.

I feel a great pain by your loss.  I had planned to one day go out and visit with you again.  I’m so very sorry for not making that happen sooner. You were dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed.  My heart aches for your family and all who are grieving you.

You and your family were continually thoughtful with your time and generosity towards me.  Whether it was you and Ellie showing up for my First Communion, or the kind gifts from you and Joe.  I always looked forward to the cherries you both would send me for my birthday.  One year I was bold enough to ask for a video camera and the two of you gifted me my first camcorder. 

I was always so envious of your movie collection in the family room.  I remember watching X-Men, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Sixteen Candles for the first time at your house.  During the prom scene of Sixteen Candles, many of the girls were sitting around a table as the event went on, and you encouraged me to ask them to dance in the future, letting me know they would like to and were just waiting for someone to ask.  I remember Ellie, I think maybe during this same trip, teaching me to dance for the first time, out in the backyard by the door and table there.

The highlights of my summer were always the time I spent with you and your family.  During one of these visits, I lost a tooth and the tooth fairy left me a silver dollar along with some other coins I’d never seen before.  I remember being so excited when I woke up and found them under my pillow.  It’s now been around 25 years on and I still have them.  

St. Michael’s was always a cherry on top to an already wonderful vacation.  I remember one time while staying with you in St. Michael’s, Ellie and Thomas convinced me to ask you for something (I think going to or renting some movie), telling me you have to be the one to ask her and to make sure to call her Godmama when you do, and whatever it was, you said yes.  I remember getting to swim in your pool and watching Titanic for the first time in your family room.  Even though I was both in such awe and fear of the jellyfish off the dock, I was very excited and proud of myself for being brave enough to get in the water while Joe taught me how to kayak for the first time.

Lotty,

I couldn’t have been blessed with a better Godmother.  You and Joe always had your hearts and home open to me and my family.  Some of my fondest childhood memories came from visiting you and your family in the summer.  I can still smell and taste the ropa vieja you’d always make during my visits.  On one of these stays your mom stopped by and I got to try her delicious tapioca pudding.  I’ll never forget sharing meals at your table and always enjoyed getting to look upon the bird feeder by the window with its many visitors.

I saw fireflies for the first time at your house.  There were so many of them and I always looked forward to the night, as that meant I could go outside and try to catch some.  I always loved being around Bismarck and was so happy when we were able to get a boxer of our own the first night after returning home from a visit.  

The days were also a lot of fun.  I loved having Imelda come over.  She was always a sweetheart that the family and I loved being around.  I only recall an ice cream truck driving through my neighborhood once, so It was always a rush of excitement when I could hear the one by your house drive through your neighborhood and I’d race with whoever was there to catch it.

One of my earliest memories was feeling disappointed not getting to see the Power Rangers movie with Ellie and Thomas because you and my mom thought I was too little to watch it, as I had just turned four.  With the movie release, I started collecting the Power Rangers toys from McDonalds and was able to find all of them but the Pink Ranger.  One day while driving home, my mom and I stopped at the mailbox, and she handed me a gift from you and your family.  It was the Pink Power Ranger that we had been unable to find anywhere near us.  To little me, this might as well have been gold.

Dear family, I am so sorry to hear about Lottie‘s passing. I have the memories of her living across the street from us. I think she was the one that I sponsored for her American citizenship. She was always so sweet. I saw her a few months ago I guess at church. my condolences my prayers and my love to all.

I was very sad to hear about Lotty. I have fond memories of spending time time with you and your family. Our discussions were very lively especially when Jimmy and Lotty took over. My heart goes out to you and Ellie. Know that Lotty will be in my prayers.
