Lucy was born on March 21,
1925 in Charleston WV and lived in the Washington DC area for most of her adult life. Lucy’s first
husband Robert Crichton died in 1968 and she later found her second love Kempton B. Jenkins,
diplomat, who pre-deceased her in 2012.
Lucy was an avid and accomplished golfer having grown up on a course at her childhood home. She was
a graduate of West Virginia University. She was a lovely home maker and a wonderful and
compassionate mother and wife to two husbands and families. She volunteered for organizations such
as the Iona House, Hospital for Sick Children and National Cathedral. She had a heart for flowers and
nature expressed in her lovely home gardens and participation in the Perennial Garden Club GCA. She
was also honored as the first woman board member for the Chevy Chase Club.
Throughout her life, Lucy will be known for her graciousness, kindness, heartfelt concern for others, and
gift of hospitality. Later in life, her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lucy
was preceded in death by her son R. Grieg Crichton. She is survived by her daughter Ann West (Tom) of
Bethesda, MD, step sons Peter Jenkins (Vicki) of Gill, MA, Timothy Jenkins (Judy) and Michael Jenkins
(Peggy Clark) of Bethesda MD, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on September 29, 3:00PM at All Saints Church, Chevy Chase MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Rehabilitation Hospital.
