

Born in Paris, France, December 7, 1923 and raised in Paris and Chartres, she received her nurses training from 1945-47 and received her French Diploma in Nursing (RN) in 1947. She came to the United States in 1948 with her American soldier husband, Howard N. Brown (deceased). The marriage ended in divorce. Madeleine became a Naturalized Citizen in 1952. She spent her nursing career as an Operating Room Nurse at The Central Dispensary and Emergency Hospital, Washington, DC, 1952-1958 (Hospital closed to form Washington Hospital Center), Doctor’s Hospital, Washington, DC, 1958-1979 (Hospital declared bankruptcy in 1979), and Providence Hospital, Washington, DC, 1979-1992, at which time she retired.
Madeleine also spent two 3 month tours of service in 1963-64 with CARE-MEDICO, at the request of the State Department, in Beni-Messous Hospital, Algiers, Algeria as an Operating Room Nurse and an Operating Room Supervisor. This effort was to reopen hospitals after the Algerian War and train the people of Algeria to take over operation of these hospitals.
She is predeceased by her parents, Alfred Eugène Georges Guérin and Julia Marie Augustine Durupt Guérin, and her brother, André Charles Georges Guérin. She is survived by her daughter, Sister Francine Brown, D.C. of Washington, DC, her nephew, Pascal Guérin (Anne-Marie) of Mehun-sur-Yevre, France, great-nieces and a great-nephew, and great-great nephews and a great-great niece, all of France. Roger (Linda) Brown in Fayetteville, PA, Russell (Jan) Brown in Culpepper, VA and great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great niece in PA.
