Margaret Henry Ikenberry

1920 - 2013

Margaret Ikenberry of Chevy Chase and Easton, Maryland departed this life at age 93 surrounded by family on Friday, October 25, 2013. She is survived by daughters Cathy Fawell (Reed) of Washington, DC, and Peggy Rauck (John) of Daleville, VA. She is also survived by grandchildren Reed Fawell IV (Elizabeth), Washington, DC; Henry Fawell (Jamie), Annapolis, MD; Maggie Rauck, Charleston, SC; and Kate Rauck, Charlotte, NC; and three great-grandchildren, George and Mary Fawell and Marshall Fawell. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry C. Ikenberry, Jr., and her brother, Maurice Henry.

Born in Washington, DC, she grew up in Bridgewater, VA. She graduated from Bridgewater College where she met Henry Ikenberry in 1938. They married in 1943 and were devoted life partners for 65 years. After his retirement from the law firm, Steptoe & Johnson they made their home in Easton, MD. During that time they traveled extensively including a Round the World trip on the Concorde in 1997. She was a Girl Scout Leader, and active at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, and Homestead Garden Club. She was an avid tennis player and member of Chevy Chase Club.

A memorial service will be held at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, 1 Chevy Chase Circle, Washington, DC at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Memorial contributions may be made to Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church or to The Henry C. & Margaret H. Ikenberry Endowed Scholarship Fund at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, VA 22812.
