Marisa Jane Broka, 69, of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Bay Village, OH, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. Marisa was born on April 18, 1957, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Sherman and Margaret Broka (nee Duthie).
Marisa was the beloved sister to the late Sherman Broka (Pam), the late Bob Broka, and Peggy Harris (Gary); a wonderful aunt to 7 nephews and 1 niece; and great-aunt to 6 grandnieces and 2 grandnephews.
After graduating from Bay High School in 1975, Marisa went on to attend The George Washington University, where, in 1979, she earned a combined Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Political Science.
In 1984, Marisa began a 30+ year career with the American Bankers Association (ABA) in Washington, D.C. During her career, Marisa was selected to serve on the ABA's VIP team, working closely with the Association's leadership and the International Monetary Conference. In this role, Marisa traveled to six continents, worked alongside distinguished business leaders and world figures, and even met Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
After retiring from the ABA in 2016 as VP of Professional Development, Marisa continued to enjoy visiting family and friends, traveling the world, and volunteering at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens.
Whether sharing a drink and a laugh on the shores of Dewey Beach, watching a baseball game in Cleveland, or traveling to exotic locales around the world, if you spent time with Marisa, you were better for it. Marisa built a rich, fulfilling life centered around a thriving career, lifelong friends, global adventures, a passion for literature, music, and the arts, and a remarkably open mind. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will live on forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Cancer Society in honor of Marisa Broka. A memorial service celebrating Marisa’s life will be held at a later date.
