I was deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Mac's passing.  We always lived pretty far away, so we didn't get to see him very often.  We used to visit when I was a kid and I recall him "interviewing" me about what was going on in my young life.  Mac was the best uncle ever - I will cherish those fond memories forever!

It is very sad to hear of Mac's passing. I saw an interview with him on News 4 a few months ago, and he was healthy, and very happy with his retirement from "It's Academic". I am a member of a metro D.C. area homebrew club, a membership that includes an alumni from the Quiz show, as well as the current IA coach for the Holton Arms school. We will all miss Mac, and we extend our sympathies to his surviving family.

Enjoy watching your show. May you rest in paradise.

I enjoyed Mac McGarry weekdays on WRC radio in Washington, D.C. He had a mellifluous voice and a great personality. My prayers are with him and his family.

Mac was truly one a kind -- a warm and witty man, and a loving and loyal friend. He and my father, Bob Morison, were classmates at Regis H.S. In New York City, a friendship they kept up--even if by long distance--for seven decades. Mac also introduced my father to my mother, who lived in Mac's Jackson Heights neighborhood. When my family and I moved to DC 15 years ago, we were fortunate enough to meet him and Babette, a couple of times with my father. Great times and memories. You will be missed.

I met Mac when our daughter was on It's Academic twice 2008+09. He was warm, witty, professional and gave of himself to make that show for high school academics to shine. My the McGarry family be comforted by God's love and peace, knowing Mac left a legacy.

Mr mcgarry was my beloved uncle John Callaghan's roommate at Fordham and long standing dear friend for over sixty years.  I vividly recall stories from my mother of Mac, Vin,and John in their early days in Pittsfield Ma.  Their pure Irish repartee and charming banter was legendary and endeared them to all in their vicinity. God bless Mac McGarry and may St. Peter be quizzed on Mac's way through the gates!  Chris Bova

How many people you know that in the media business today? Mac was brilliant and shared his talents with many - I was one who
was fortunate to have him as a mentor. Some fifty-seven years ago,
he guided me as I started a career in broadcasting as a vacation relief
announcer at WBUF-TV in Buffalo,New York. The station was an owned
and operated NBC outlet and Mac was there for a spell helping the
network with this new project. He selfishly guided me that summer and
for the early part of my career. I can still hear him saying " Stick with
me kid " and I did and owe him so much for his guidance and kindness.
Our thoughts and prayers to his beautiful " Babs " and his children.
He always has and will continue to be remembered with love for just
being himself - may you rest in peace dear friend.
