

Mitchell Leon Strickler of Washington, DC passed away on March 8, 2016. He was born in 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Murry and Fay Strickler. He grew up in New Haven, CT with an older brother, Gilbert, and graduated from Hopkins School. Mitch went on to become a proud member of Dartmouth College''s class of 1953. He was an active alum who faithfully attended reunions and interviewed prospective applicants in the Washington area. He also earned degrees from Columbia University Journalism School and Yale Law School, with a stint in between in the US Army where he served at Fort Dix as a writer. Mitch had a long career as a lawyer for the federal government, most notably with the Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Mitch was an avid cyclist and member of Potomac Pedalers, and was a car aficionado. He was also a 25-year volunteer with Metropolitan Washington Ear, where he recorded readings of the newspaper for the blind. Mitch was married to his wife, Karen Strickler, for 56 years and was a longtime resident of Chevy Chase, DC. He was a wonderful and caring father to two children, his son, Daniel Strickler (Kendall) of Darnestown, MD, and his daughter, Sarah Ellis of Healdsburg, CA. He was a loving grandfather to his four granddaughters, Abigail Ellis and Annabelle Ellis, and Eliza Strickler and Clara Strickler.
In celebration of Mitch''s life, we will hold a gathering at his son''s home at 13005 Scarlet Oak Drive in Darnestown, MD from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Contributions in Mitch''s honor may be made to Metropolitan Washington Ear, Inc., 12061 Tech Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904
