Dear Muhil, last year in April I had no idea that would be the last time we would meet and when I planted this tree that same week I had no idea that it would soon become your tree.  I think of you whenever I water it or see its glistening leaves grow or see rabbits scurrying about its already sturdy trunk.  Today I found that it even provides a nice shady place to lie down and gaze up at the clouds.

At the 2024 AID conference in Browns Summit we shared the sad news of Muhil's passing.   Hearts of all gathered went out to his parents, Shyamala and Santosh, and big sister Oviya.  Those who'd met Muhil and also many who had not yet had the chance sincerely felt the loss and shared a solemn moment of remembrance.

Muhil may have been on this earth for only 2 1/2 years, but what an impact he made on all who knew him. To know Muhil was to love him.
On most mornings as Leslie and I sat drinking our tea we looked forward to seeing him leave for school with Shy and Santhosh. He was so adorable, usually laughing or with a wide smile  on his face. Just seeing him made us smile too.
It was a joy to watch him grow from a baby into a boy. How I wish we could have watched him continue to grow.
Muhil was a truly special, kind hearted little boy. We will miss him.

Dear Shyamala, we are very extremely disressed to learn the shocking and untimely demise of your baby daughter. We do not know what to say and how to console you. The ways of Providence are inscrutable, and sometimes there is a dreadful finality about them.
All we can say is that we are praying to God with folded hands for Sadgati of the noble soul and solace to you and family members.

I cannot even begin to express the sorrow we feel. Isa loves Muhil so very much. She lit up like a thousand suns every time she saw him. She says his name so much at home that my boys know all about him and the special bond they shared. He brought her so much joy. I'll never forget how excited she was to see Mu-Mu outside the museum. His bright spirit touched our hearts deeply. We will never forget his brightness. 

I remember when I ran into Muhil getting a haircut, and he seemed so proud. He was such an intelligent little boy. Our family will miss him dearly.

It was my privilege to know Muhil as a parent of his classmate Sylvie. I could not have asked for better role model as a classmate -- Muhil was one of the kindest and one of the most perceptive toddlers I have ever encountered. Muhil truly warmed my heart when he first started to say "bye-bye" to Sylvie and later to announce when "Sylvie's daddy" was there for pick-up. It was always a pleasure to cross paths with him (and his family!) in the school or on the sidewalk. May his memory be for a blessing. I know I will not forget him.

Muhil was such a sweet and joyful boy, with a curious spirit and a love for all things construction. I had the honor of babysitting him. We spent countless hours playing with blocks, trucks, and reading books. His happiness was infectious, and his laughter filled the room.

One of the highlights of my time with him was watching his face light up when his sister Oviya got home. He looked up to her so much, and their bond was incredibly strong. It was heartwarming to see him try to follow in her footsteps and do everything she did.

Muhil's light touched us all deeply. We will forever cherish the joy and love he brought into our lives.

In our brief moments with Muhil, he always brought a smile to us. Whether it be watching Santosh and him enjoy the quiet on the little playground in the mornings after all the kids went off to class, or seeing his daredevil moves on the playground climbing beyond his years, or cheering Oviya on at soccer and putting up with Oviya and Nia squeezing him under the umbrella, he always shined his light.
