Passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 14, 2013, following a series of strokes. Beloved mother of John G. Buchanan III (Denise) and the late Joan G. Buchanan (Joost Polak); doting grandmother to Grier, Ben, Luke and Will Buchanan. Three times a widow, she was predeceased by John G. Buchanan, Jr., James A. Pearson, and Samuel P. Goddard. She lived in and around Pittsburgh, PA until 1972, and in Scottsdale, AZ until 2009, when she moved to Washington, D.C. to join her Buchanan family. A 1940 graduate of Wellesley College, she was an active volunteer, a talented artist and an avid sportswoman, competing in tennis tournaments into her 90th year. Her beauty and enthusiasm earned her admirers from all generations. Her life will be celebrated at 3:30 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Grand Oaks, 5901 MacArthur Blvd., Washington, DC. Another service is planned for March 4 in Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wellesley College or the Washington Animal Rescue League, 71 Oglethorpe Street, NW Washington, DC 20011.
