Nancy Baird Aiken Miller age 96, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026. She will be missed dearly by her loving family. Nancy was born March 14, 1930 in Beverly Hills, CA and is the daughter of Joseph E. Aiken and Harriet (nee McCurdy) Aiken. Her spouse for 65 years, Charles H. Miller and brother William Aiken preceded her in death.
Nancy worked at Washington National Airport – United Airlines and attended University of Maryland where she met Charles. Upon his return from Korea and graduation, they were married February 7, 1953 at The New York Ave. Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.
They began their nomadic married life with Charles’ career moves with American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) from Washington DC to White Plains NY, Boston, MA, New Haven, CT, St. Louis, MO and New York City and ultimately back to White Plains and Washington DC.
Nancy at one time was involved in 17 organizations particularly in the Washington area including the Jane Austen Society of North America, Co-President of the 1990 Washington DC Convention, Mary Surratt Society, Camping for Girls formerly National T.T.T. Society, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Stephen Ministries at Potomac Presbyterian Church, Potomac Welcome Wagon and Newcomers Club among others. She was involved with many activities at Ingleside at King Farm, Rockville where she resided for the last 17 years. Her interests up until her death included playing bridge, Mahjong, a Civil War History enthusiast, the Royals, and her Scottish heritage. Nancy is particularly proud of her California roots as her Dad was a sound producer for 20th Century FOX movie studios and her mother who was ahead of her time and knew how to drive a car. When her father was commissioned as an officer in the Navy in 1942, her mother drove her and her brother, Bill across country to Washington DC on her own. She loved travel, theater, concerts, swimming in the ocean, Long Island Sound or the backyard pool. She fiercely loved her many family gatherings and her greatest accomplishment, she says, are her children.
Nancy is survived by her four children, Robert (Laura) Miller, Carolyn (Bruce) Downie, Joel (Judith) Miller and Christian (Aurora) Miller; ten grandchildren Erica (Jay), Marisa, (Eamon), Matthew, Colleen (John), Kaloy (Heather), Molly, William, Lucy, Kyle, Jackson and five great grandchildren Ava, Everett, Lillian, Colton and Tessa.
