

Nancy was a beloved schoolteacher in Montgomery County Public Schools for 40 years, teaching at Bradley Elementary, Westbrook Elementary and finally Somerset Elementary before retiring in 2004. She was active as a deacon and volunteer at her church, Fourth Presbyterian in Bethesda, and was also a volunteer at Sibley Hospital. Born in Frederick, MD, Nancy attended Towson University before moving to Bethesda.
Nancy was preceded in death in late 2015 by her husband of fifty-eight years Edward Heston Walker, daughter Carole Walker Potter, brother James Murphy, and parents Charles and Kathleen Murphy. She was survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and George Scola; son-in-law Andrew and his wife, Robyn Potter; her grandchildren Joseph and Rachel Scola, Meredith, Shannon and Christopher Potter, and Tyler, Zachary and Emily Herbst; her sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and Nelson Pittenger and her brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Sandy Murphy; as well as numerous and loved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW (Corner of Harrison Street) Washington, DC (Valet Parking) on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 5500 River Road, Bethesda, MD on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A private interment service will follow in the afternoon at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD.
