Nicholas “Nick” John Nichols died peacefully on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018. He was 77. Nick was born to the late Celia (Tougias) and John Nichols. He was predeceased by his brother George Nichols. He is survived by his children Shelley Nichols (and fiancé, Henning Mortveit), John Nichols (and wife Kate Nichols), Catherine Nichols (and husband Eric Olson), and James Nichols (and wife Amanda Nichols). He was the beloved papou of Genny Cline, Olivia Nichols, Caroline Nichols, Rhys Olson, Eleanor Nichols, and Nicholas Olson. He is also survived by his niece, Stephanie Nichols (and
husband, Dave Gamzon), and nephew Chris Nichols.
Nick was a native Washingtonian who attended Calvin Coolidge High School, undergrad at The George Washington University, and earned a law degree at George Mason School of Law. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. Nick spent the majority of his career in finance with Legg Mason, Johnston, Lemon & Co., and Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler’s Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, June 3, from 3-7 p.m. Services will be held at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Monday, June 4, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Sophia’s Church at 2815 36th St NW, Washington, DC 20007.
