Nola will forever be cherished in the lives of her two sons, Todd Wallette Washington and Kyle Wallette Washington; two brothers, Alonzo Vandolph Wallette and Gerald Morris Wallette; four grandchildren, Nicholas Jeremiah Washington, Julius Ryan Washington, Alexandra Paige Washington and Beau Miles Washington and a host of other loving relatives and many friends.
Nola, the only daughter of the late Wilmer “Tody” Wallette and Mavice Colley Wallette, was born November 26, 1943, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She attended West Shreveport Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1960 in Shreveport. Nola received her higher education at Howard University and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Fisk University in 1966, where she was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Passionate about her studies, she furthered her education and received her Masters Degree from American University.
In Shreveport, Nola served as a counselor in the Neighborhood Youth Corp Program where she worked to aid in the Anti-Poverty effort, identifying at risk youth and placing them in education and work training programs in Caddo and Bossier Parishes in northwest Louisiana.
In 1971 in Cambridge, Massachusetts Nola and her former husband Robert B. Washington Jr. gave birth to their first son, Todd. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Washington, D.C. And, in 1977, they gave birth to their second son Kyle, who was born in Washington, D.C.
Nola worked as a Technical Writer and Editor for PSI Associates Inc., for twelve years. Nola also sat on numerous boards, including The American University, Women’s National Bank, and National Children’s Museum.
Nola was a member of various social organizations, among them Capital City Chapter of The Links Inc. where she was a charter member. She was also a member of The DG’s and Just Us.
Beyond her work and education, Nola will be remembered for her witty remarks, magnetic smile and wonderful sense of humor. When properly encouraged, she was an exquisite and tasteful hostess. When aggressively persuaded, Nola would demonstrate her extraordinary culinary skills. But among her many wonderful qualities, her generosity seemed unlimited. Like her parents, giving back was paramount to her.
Nola felt comfortable in the presence of everyone, care not their status or rank. Her inner spirit was like a flame that drew moths that never left. Touching the hearts of many, she maintained relationships that have spanned the decades. Nola will be missed by all her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
