It is very difficult to believe that Richard is no longer with us and I will always feel he is close by those who remember him.  His energy and optimism seemed never to wane, even in his final two years.  Always on the move, yet always finding time to communicate with friends and family, I never heard him raise his voice or even seem the slightest bit angry.  He was an immeasurable source of strength and comfort to his devoted wife, Patricia, and their two sons, Simon and Oliver and I am sure they will always feel his presence about them. Keep your spirit up always Richard.

I can scarcely think of anyone I admire more than Richard Mertz.  We worked together for mutual clients for almost 20 years.  He was a warm and engaging person as well as an exceptionally brilliant engineer.  His passing leaves a hole in my heart.
