Robert Joseph Crowley

He was born, the eldest child of Genevieve (nee Keough) and Joseph Crowley of Elmira, New York, on January 11,1939.

He attended Catholic grade school and Notre Dame Academy, playing every sport and excelling in basketball, baseball and golf. He found his true life-long love of golf while caddying at Elmira Country Club, and went on to win dozens of junior amateur golf tournaments.

After his high school graduation, he was invited to come to Baltimore for a tryout as a catcher for the Orioles. While that didn’t work out for him, they hired him as business manager for one of their minor league teams. That began a long relationship with the Baltimore Orioles, with Bob ultimately working in the front office.

In 1962, Bob married Theresa Proulx, of Elmira, New York; they lived in Baltimore and had three children. They eventually moved their family to Greenbelt, Md. and Bob became involved in community politics while working several jobs. His interest in politics continued through Robert Kennedy’s Presidential campaign, where he served as liaison to the Kennedy New York State campaign. After Robert Kennedy’s death, he went to work as a Community Relations Specialist for the Prince George County Police Dept. until he retired in 2001.

After his divorce in 1976, Bob moved to Georgetown, met his present wife, Ann Marie in 1980, and Georgetown remained their home until the present day.

Bob was an avid and proficient golfer his entire life and will be remembered for his absolute passion for the game, but also for his outgoing, larger-than-life personality and gregariousness, and his infectious laugh.

He was religious and believed deeply in the power of prayer. For years, he could be seen walking to Holy Trinity chapel, most often carrying a golf club, for the daily 7:00 am Mass. It was not unusual for him to tell his grandchildren he was praying for them.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie, his three children, Robert J. Crowley Jr. (Kathy), Carolyn M. Crowley, and James F. Crowley (Sarrina), three grandchildren, Jackie Crowley, Billy Crowley and CJ Holt, and two great-granddaughters, Layla and Annabella.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa, his sister, Judith and his brother, Paul.

Bob was so loved by his family, his passing has left an enormous chasm of emptiness.

May he rest in peace and enjoy the fruits of a life well-lived.
