

Of Washington DC, on April 7, 2012, at the age of 86. Preceded in death by Rosemary, beloved wife of 48 years. Survived with love by his two children, Leslie and David; brother, David; grandchildren, Emily, Taylor, Madeline, Abigail, Colter and Griffin; son-in-law, John and daughter-in-law, Caroline.
Bob Smalley enjoyed a distinguished career in politics and the Foreign Service, which culminated in his appointment as United States Ambassador to The Kingdom of Lesotho in 1987. He was a talented author and public speaker who profoundly loved his country, and served her with grace, honor and dignity. He is remembered by friends and family around the world as a kind spirit and true gentleman.
