

Rose was born in Bristol, RI and lived there until the early 1950’s when she came to Walter Reed to be with her brother who was being treated for an injury he received in the Navy. She decided to stay in the DC area and initially had a job working at the Ambassador Hotel, where she met many political and entertainment celebrities. A few years later she joined the Department of Agriculture as a secretary but eventually became an executive assistant in The Forest Service. She worked there for over 40 years and after retirement worked part time with the EPA. She lived in Alexandria for over 50 years. Since 2020 she was a resident at Elance at West End by Cogir. In the 1960’s she befriended the Bernardo family of Bethesda Maryland, who were formerly from Bristol, RI. She shared so many holidays with the Bernardos that she became family.
Friends are welcome at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington DC 20016, Tuesday June 3 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for visiting hours. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 141 State Street, Bristol, Rhode Island 02809, on June 9 at 10:00 am, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bristol, Rhode Island.
