Rosemary “Peg” Ourand, 87, of Washington, D.C., passed away on October 24, 2025.
Born on August 30, 1938, to Duncan and Rosemary Burgoyne, Peg was the third of three children, following her brother John and sister Mickey.
A fifth-generation Washingtonian, she grew up in the northwest corner of the city, where she attended Blessed Sacrament elementary school, Holy Names High School, and Catholic University.
With her late husband, John, Peg raised six children and was blessed with seven grandchildren who brought her great joy. She lived her life with conviction, steadfast faith, and devotion to her family. She is survived by six children (Michael, Suzanne (Jim), Brian, Chris, Johnny (Anne), and Paul, as well as her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Raised during a time when the shadows of the Depression and World War II still lingered, Peg learned the value of modesty and sacrifice. She lived simply so her children could receive the benefits of a Catholic education, passing on to them the values that shaped her own life.
When her children were grown, Peg channeled her appreciation for beauty and comfort into an interior design business. Working with neighbors and friends, she became known for her thoughtful touch in creating spaces that felt welcoming.
Proud of her heritage, Peg traced her ancestry to Limerick City, Ireland, where her great-grandmother, Bridget O’Brien, emigrated shortly after the Civil War. She was equally proud of being a lifelong Washingtonian, always ready to share stories about the city she loved and called home.
Peg will be remembered for her Catholic values and commitment to family. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 at Our Lady of Victory church in Washington, D.C. Visitation is at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral is at 11:30 a.m.
