Born and raised in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, the middle child of three daughters, Ruth was a longtime resident of Davenport, Iowa. She attended St. Ambrose College and earned a Masters in Library Science from the University of Northern Illinois. She lived in the Washington, DC area during World War II, working for the Department of Agriculture. Following the War, she worked in the Davenport and Bettendorf municipal libraries and then was a librarian at Blackhawk College in Moline, Illinois. She was married to Raymond C. Judd for 40 years. After retirement Mrs. Judd moved to southern California, first Carlsbad and then Oceanside, to be near her sister Genett. Since 2003 she lived in Washington, DC.
Mrs. Judd’s interests included golf, walking, skiing, reading, travel, bridge and genealogy. For the latter, she used her library training to help trace her family history back to the Seventeenth Century. The daughter of a piano tuner, Walter Herrick and his wife, Amanda Kraftmeyer, Mrs. Judd played piano and encouraged her sons to take up music. She was active in the PEO civic organization and League of Women Voters.
She is survived by her two sons, Terry [Jo-Ann Amadeo] of Arlington, Va. and Bruce [Ellen Byrne] of Portola Valley, Ca., two grandchildren, Matthew Judd of Arlington, Va. and Carrie Judd Miller of Longmont, Colo. and two great grandsons, Luke and Emmett Miller.
