On Friday,June 8, 2018, of Washington, DC. Born Wilmington, Del. on February 26, 1936. Beloved husband of Cathryn (Murray) Donohoe for fifty-five years. Son of the late William Ward Donohoe, Sr. and Alice Cecilia (Dugan) Donohoe. Beloved brother of David Allen Donohoe (Connie), William Ward Donohoe, Jr. (Kay), Paul Francis Donohoe (Barbara), Margaret Mary Donohoe, and Alice Cecilia Langen (Bill). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Tom was a graduate of Chaminade High School in Mineola, L.I., New York, and the Stern School of Business at New York University. He was a salesman of electronic equipment to business and industry in New York City and later in Washington. He served in the New York Army National Guard's 165th Infantry Regiment ("The Fighting 69th"). He was an amateur radio operator, and a proud member of the American Radio Relay League since the age of 16.
He was also a gifted musician, both as a pianist and organist, following in the tradition of his mother, who was a professional pianist, and organist and accompanist. Tom served for years as an assistant organist at the Church of the Epiphany, near his Gramercy Park home in New York, before he and his wife moved to Washington. Wherever he lived, Tom’s residence was always brimming with musical instruments, sound equipment and electronic gear..
A funeral Mass will be offered on June 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada St NW in Washington, just east of Chevy Chase Circle. Family and friends are asked to visit at the church for remembrance beginning at 10 a.m. Inurnment of his ashes will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20906.
