Thomas C. Rogers, of Bethesda, Maryland, died on November 15, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife, Christie, and his children, Thomas, Jr.(Sarah), Jennifer (Jim), Donna (Bosko), Kenneth (Meneika), and Theodore (Jennifer), 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Born to Jeannette V. and Thomas J. Rogers Jr. on December 7, 1934, Tom grew up in Landsdowne, PA. He attended Landsdowne High School and graduated from Villanova University in 1956 where he earned a football scholarship.
In 1957, he was drafted by the Army and sent to Korea (peace time). Upon arriving in Seoul, his athletic background enabled him to join a football team. Immediately after football season, Tom played baseball for a team that won the Korean championship. He was then asked to manage (and play for) a baseball team. To complete his “tour of duty”, Tom was chosen to play for (and help coach) a division level football team. Then he returned to the U.S.A.
Tom’s business career began as a Hospital Sales Rep for Johnson and Johnson in New York and New Jersey. After tripling sales in his first year, he sought a “more challenging” career; hence, he joined Connecticut General Life Insurance Company as a Brokerage Consultant in Philadelphia. Soon after, the Army recalled him during the Berlin Crisis. Upon returning to the corporate world, and to assure his life insurance future, Tom accepted an offer from CNA Insurance (Continental Assurance Company) to open an office for them in Washington, DC. Starting from scratch, he quickly became the “life insurance arm” of several of the finest Independent General Insurance Agencies in the D.C. area. First, as the producing manager of the Washington, DC brokerage agency, and later with Rogers & Associates, Inc., a general agency. Tom was recognized as a National Production Leader. As such, he was recipient of numerous awards over a 30 year span. He was a perennial member of CNA’s distinguished Chairman’s Club and a Director of the General Agents and Managers Association.
Prior to retiring in 1994, Tom enjoyed coaching football in the Capital Beltway League and baseball for the Potomac Boy’s Club. When retired, Christie and Tom divided their time between Bethesda where they frequently utilized their membership at Columbia Country Club, and their beachfront condominium in Naples, Florida.
Funeral and burial will be private, with Celebration of Life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National MS Society.
