Valerie C. Schmidt, a native Washingtonian, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 8, 2013 after a difficult struggle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Richard C. Schmidt, loving mother of Michael J. Mesmer (Courtney); sister of Robert J. Cestone. Also survived by many loving and dear friends. Valerie spent most of her career working at Marriott where she was part of The Quarter Century Club. She was known by family and friends for her generosity, compassion, and hospitality. She was passionate about gardening, travel, design and spending time at the beach with her family.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Church, 9525 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
