

On Wednesday December 16, 2015, Yolanda K. McArthur, 100, of Bethesda, MD. At 8 years of age Yolanda Stella with her parents and two sisters of Italian heritage sailed from her native country, Argentina to America. For 80 years, she lived in Northern California where she married and with her husband raised two children in Alameda. For many years she was a resident of “Rossmoor” in Walnut Creek. “Yola” as she was affectionately called, enjoyed life – from singing & dancing to cooking & and reading. Given her good nature she was a joy to be with. At 88 years of age, she moved to Maplewood Park Place in Bethesda, MD to be near her daughter, Marlene Malek and her family of McLean, VA.
At 100 years of age, Yola’s upbeat spirit continued to radiate among her Family and Friends. Her Family includes a daughter Marlene (Fred) Malek of McLean, VA; A son, Bill (Kathy) McArthur of Dayton, OH and a former daughter-in-law, Pam Flick of CA. She was a caring and loving Grandmother to: Frederic (Britlan) Malek of Washington, DC; Michelle (Chris) Olson of McLean, VA; Meghan (Jeff) White of West Hills, CA; Lindsay McArthur of Huntington Beach, CA; and Garrett and Kacey McArthur of Dayton, OH – and to 7 Great Grandchildren: Oliva, Scarlett & Channing of McLean, VA, Frederic & Cannon of Washington, DC and Ali & Lia of West Hills, CA. She was predeceased by her husband, William A. McArthur, a police sergeant in Alameda, CA in 1964 – and a sister Amanda Kitrelle. She is survived by one sister, Lena Simning of Bend, OR. A special tribute to her loyal Assistants for their care: Oliva Fofana, Haja Kabba and Sally Kamara – all of Sierra Leone.
