Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Dennis proudly served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. After his service, he worked as a skilled welder for renowned artists and numerous companies, helping create artwork and fixtures installed all over the world. He later retired as an engineer from St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh.
Dennis was known for his humor, loyalty to the Minnesota Vikings, and love of golf and horseshoes. A natural jokester, he brought laughter and joy to many.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Vittum and Margaret Owes.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wendy V. Vittum of Salisbury Mills; children Kelly Muller of Myrtle Beach, SC; Dennis Vittum (fiancée Jennifer Knox) of Newburgh, NY; and Derek Vittum (husband Kiel Van Horn) of Port Jervis, NY; grandchildren Ashley, Justin, Colin, Jeremy, Sean, and Alex; great-grandson Jacob; siblings Suzanne, Scott, Ric, Nancy, Barbara, Bruce, Dana, and Kari; and many loving nieces and nephews
A graveside service for Dennis will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd, Goshen, New York 10924.
