Douglas John Ferrigno, 79, of Washingtonville, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 21st. He will be missed dearly by his family. Known to family and friends as Doug, he was born in Bronx, New York on February 18, 1942 to Pasquale and Dorothea (Gorman) Ferrigno.
Above all else, Doug was a family man. Predeceased by his parents and sister Patricia Ferrigno Speranza, Doug is survived by his loving and devoted wife Suzanne, to whom he was married for 57 years. Doug is also survived by his seven children and their families: JD Ferrigno and Alvaro Lopez, Jennifer and Greg Mirecki, Patrick Ferrigno, Rebecca Ferrigno-Ohm and Michael Ohm, Paul and Adele Ferrigno, Marybeth and Greg Sheppard, Katherine Ferrigno and Ricardo Diaz, and by his twelve grandchildren: Victoria, Nicholas and Sophie Mirecki; Benjamin, Maggie, and Dorothea Ohm, Bella Ferrigno, Owen and Sean Ferrigno and Andy, Suzanna and Grace Sheppard.
Doug moved with his family to Mahopac, NY in 1953. Shortly thereafter, Doug met Suzanne Finnerty, who would become his wife and lifelong partner.
After graduating from Mahopac High School in 1960, Doug went on to study at SUNY Cortland, graduating with a degree in Education in 1964. Doug and Suzanne married in December 1964 and settled in Orange County, first in Newburgh and later in Washingtonville where Doug became a fixture of the community for more than 50 years.
Doug taught in Washingtonville for 5 years at both Little Britain Elementary School and Washingtonville Middle School. During that time, Doug was also a coach of the High School Wrestling and Football teams. Doug then embarked on a new career as a Financial Advisor. Doug was the founder of Ferrigno Financial, Orange County’s premier retirement planning firm. Through his work there, Doug helped thousands of local families achieve long-term financial success.
Doug was a man of deep faith. He was active in his local parish, St. Mary’s of Washingtonville. He was also a member of The Word of Life community, a Charismatic Christian organization based in Orange County since 1974.
Doug enjoyed large family gatherings, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, cooking, dining out, reading, RV camping, trips to Cape May, NJ and naps.
A visitation for Douglas will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at David T Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992. A mass of christian burial will occur Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville, NY, Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 2 Fr. Tierney Circle, Washingtonville.
