George was born in the Bronx on September 20, 1951 to George Forbes and Pilar Prado. Shortly after graduating from high school he met the love of his life – Lynda C. Gual. George and Lynda would eventually marry on June 20, 1976, and have two children, George Jr. and Jordan. The family relocated to Washingtonville in 1986.
George had a long and successful career with the New York City Department of Corrections, achieving the rank of Captain in 1993. He was dedicated to the department and honored by the opportunity it presented to serve the people of New York. He retired in 2003.
After retirement, George took the opportunity provided by his extra time to complete a lifelong dream – attaining a college degree. He threw himself into his studies and graduated with highest honors to earn a B.S. in Human Resource Management from Springfield College in 2008. George also used his time during retirement to travel the country with his wife in their RV. He truly enjoyed meeting all of the interesting people they came across on their travels and learning more about the country. When George was home he could often be found working to improve an appliance, fixing a vehicle, or building a new machine. He loved to tinker in his garage – one packed with an assortment of tools and machinery.
George’s sons thank him for his love, wisdom and encouragement – and also for coaching their youth basketball teams. George is survived by his two children, countless friends, and many nieces and nephews who sometimes referred to him as “tio” but mostly as “Uncle George.” May he rest in peace.
