George Polman, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he was the son of the late George Polman, Sr. and Gesina (née Stoltenburg) Polman.
George was a graduate of Bogota High School, where he loved playing football. He was a proud first-generation American who deeply cherished his Dutch heritage and was a very patriotic man. For most of his life, George worked as a bricklayer, proudly carrying on a family tradition alongside three generations—his father, his brothers, and eventually his sons.
George was married to the love of his life, Yvonne M. Coleman, for 62 years. They were married on November 23, 1963, in Maywood, NJ. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their family. While working full-time, George supported Yvonne as she attended nursing school, taking on many of the household responsibilities and becoming the family's true “Mr. Mom.”
George was a gentle giant who didn’t have a mean bone in his body. He was kind, generous, loving, and devoted to his family. He was the best father and always made time for his children. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could make people laugh with jokes that seemed to come out of nowhere. To his children, he was a hero and a constant source of love and support.
He was also a devoted grandfather. His grandchildren especially cherished searching his shirt pocket for the pack of Tic Tacs he always kept tucked inside. George treasured every moment with his family and created memories that will remain with them forever.
George had many interests and passions. He loved Corvettes, Western movies, music and collecting trains. Above all, however, his greatest joy was his family.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne M. Polman; his children, Dawn Paradie and her husband Allen, Drew Polman and his wife Crissie, Dennis Polman and his wife Kristine, Heather Soler and her husband Lucas, Carriann Polman, Penny Scofield and her husband Brian, Gerrit Polman, and Everitt Polman and his wife Jamie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Taylor, Aaron, Madeline, Cassandra, Jack, Georgie, Hudson, Ana, Gerrit, Jr., Louann, John, Brooke, Nora, and Evelyn; his great-grandchildren, Maddox, Parker, Philamena, and Lyla; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his siblings, Marguerite, Dirk Sr., Jan and his son, Georgie.
George will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generous heart, wonderful sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and, most of all, through the family he loved so deeply.
Celebration of Life Honoring George will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 491 Hulsetown Rd., Campbell Hall, NY 10916.
(GPS may take you to the neighbor's driveway. Please look for the mailbox marked 491. You'll see a large rock retaining wall and long stone driveway. The house is blue at the top of the hill.)
