Gertraud Martha “OMI” Landry, a resident of Washingtonville, NY, entered into rest on October 10, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center with her family by her side, she was 84. Gertraud was born in Berlin, Germany on November 13, 1929, to Max and Martha Klauss Fechner. She was the Widow of Major William B. Landry. Gertraud came to the United States as a 27 year old War bride, she loved the Arts, culture and the Opera at Lincoln Center. Gertraud was a great cook and loved long walks at Jones Beach as well as the Bronx Zoo. " How do we speak to a life, A life for all intents and purposes was well lived, well traveled, well spoken, well dressed, well feed all the senses, all the seasons fueled by the notion of a foreign land, a city, Berlin the family, the loss, mama, papa, brother and sister, to much to bear. The language barrier, the son, the idea, the beauty the expression of love. The dress, the hair, the nails, the song, the symphony, the ability to hear and see each note the expression thru style with purpose, now in the final act, in the Autumn the last Waltz. The found love, the embrace of your family, your son, your grandsons, perfect harmony. I am there to your side- you know- I know our last words to each other BRAVO ! all our love " She was a loving mother to Byron and his wife Patricia Landry, doting grandmother to Byron Jo and Beau all of Blooming Grove, NY, loving sister to Harry and his wife Krista Fechner of Berlin, Germany, dearest Aunt to Arthur Max his wife Debra Hartman of Columbus, GA and Yvonne Fechner of Berlin also Dorle of Ohio, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Dorle Hartman. Cremation will be private. Inurnment of Gertraud’s ashes will take place Friday 11AM at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, NY.
