James Joseph Campbell was born on October 2, 1950 in the Bronx, NY to Arthur and Josephine Campbell. He grew up in Clason Point with his 5 siblings where he enjoyed a childhood filled with adventures. His mother would often share stories of his mischief and laugh. Even at that young age he carried a magnetic energy and love for life. His passion to create new experiences and his admiration for his father led to him joining the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he built bonds and friendships that he carried throughout his life. Though he had considered reenlisting he did not regret the decision to start a civilian life, as it would lead him to meeting his wife Helen, becoming a father and ultimately a grandfather. Together, James and Helen raised their 4 children Debbie, Yvette Arcadio and Jana. Throughout the years they created a home similar to the one he grew up in. As a grandfather he enjoyed every phase of his grandchildren's lives, from drives around town, picking them up from school and lunch dates. He built amazing memories that his daughters and grandchildren will reflect on throughout their lives. James was a selfless loving person. One example of his love was in 2004 when he gave his wife the gift of life and donated his Kidney. This allowed his children to have 13 additional years with their mother. Their home was filled with music as he sang and played his guitars and in later years his Ukelele. On December 9, 2023 James Campbell’s spirit was freed from its body and he joined his wife Helen, son Arcadio and parents in Heaven. Although his family and friends will miss him immensely, they are comforted by the image of that awaited reunion.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Melendez, Yvette Martinez and Jana Campbell; his grandchildren Anthony and Alina Fontana.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen and his son Arcadio.
