It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son Matthew A. Flandrau, on May 13th, 2026. He leaves behind his loving parents Catherine and Ron Flandrau, sisters Danielle Dickson (husband Scott) and Shannon Flandrau (partner Brendan), his four-legged comrade Lou, grandparents Bob and Alice Negron, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Most importantly, his legacy will live on through his treasured son Jonathan.
Matt had a big smile and even bigger laugh, especially when retelling a story. Throughout Matt’s life there was never a sport he did not want to attempt, spending years in CYO basketball and Washingtonville Little League. Matt spent many winters honing his passion for snowboarding, even as an adult – always being a thrill-seeker. He spent many summer days down at the shore with extended family and weekends camping upstate with friends. He had a huge love of music and enjoyed sharing his discoveries with friends. Later in life, he developed an obsession with fishing – often asking friends to go striper fishing or to spend an evening casting down by the river.
Matt lived with the challenges of addiction while, in recent years, working to better understand the nature of the disease and his own mental health. Ultimately, the weight of these struggles took a profound toll on his body. We choose to remember the big smile and bigger laugh and will carry those memories in our hearts for the rest of our days.
We welcome all to come and be a part of a mass celebrating his life at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, May 23rd at 10 am in Washingtonville, NY. We encourage donations to be made in his honor to St. Christopher’s Inn at Graymoor (Garrison, NY) and The Country Kids Food Pantry (Washingtonville, NY).
