Some of my best memories of Navy life were sitting and shooting the breeze with BML.  He always had a great story, lots of laughs, and was willing to teach you whatever he could.  Thanks for everything, Mike!

I served of the USS John Young with Mike. He was a truly nice and level headed guy, that we needed on the team. I am glad to have served with him. RIP

Back in his Navy days, Mike and I used to go to "The Strand" in San Diego to body surf. We were sitting out in the water waiting for a good wave, and Mike got a terrified look on his face, and said "Something brushed my leg". Then it happened again. We were both thinking "shark". Then a seal popped up behind Mike's head. We both laughed so hard we could barely swim! From terror to laughing in a heartbeat.

Damn. I just got the news from Billy Coons. My deepest condolances to Mike's family. Mike has had such a huge positive impact on so many sailors over the years. He was always teaching in one way or another.

Big Mike Lewis.  We will miss you and your endless sense of humor.  We will miss how you loved playing pranks on the guys at sub school and leaving your beloved dog as the wallpaper on every computer you worked on.  You were an awesome technician and an awesome human being!

I worked with Mike for almost four years, and he was a really awesome person, and the best at his job.  He will be sorely missed.

Mike was a good friend with whom I chatted regularly.  I had the pleasure of visiting him in his home with Scrappy and he always made me feel welcome.  He was a very smart man who could hold a discussion on anything.  he will be missed by all

My sincere condolences to Mikes family. I served 3 tours in Nimitz Hall and new Mike from the start in 1987. His wealth of knowledge and friendship will be missed.  I enjoyed his conversation from his Barracuda to signals of interest. You will be missed!

I was so sorry to learn of Mike's passing. I knew him as a friend and neighbor of my sister Fran and my nephew Linc and his family. He was always so pleasant and friendly to all on his neighborhood walks with Scrappy.  He will be deeply missed by all who had the chance to meet him. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am sorry to hear of Mike's passing.  I interacted with him quite a bit while on instructor duty in Groton.  He aways had a big smile on his face, a great sense of humor, and always willing to help out.  It is a sad loss.

Mike was a great friend. I was the leading Chief at ESM "A" school where my staff and I worked from 2000 to 2004. Mike maintained the lab equipment signal generators with unmatched expertise. He also was a key contributor in establishing the Multi-Purpose Reconfigurable Training Sytems to include design and production of emulation software. He also contributed in a full course revision for the Navy's new accesion Electronic Technicians. Mike was trully part of our Navy Family. We spent many hours and days working side by side. We also had a great light hearted environment, which included office and restaurant lunchings and often excersized comraderie. Mike was a great Patriot, Shipmate and friend who we will all remember well.

Though I only knew Mike through working with him for about 10 years I knew him to be an exceptional person and learning of his passing was quite shocking.  My prayers go out to his family, friends and his companion "Scrappy" as I know he will be missed by all.

I was very surprised to learn of Mike's passing.  I had the pleasure of working with Mike for about 10 years and he was amazing.  Always performing up and above those expected.  I don't think Mike really thought of his work with the Navy as a heavy duty but something he took great pride in.  He truely was one of of the Navy civilians at NAVSUBSCOL and treated as such.  Being a contractor my self for many years, no greater complement can be made that you are thought of as one of the guys.
I never had an opportunity to meet any of Mike's family but I do remember him always good things.  He will be missed and I'll make sure I add him and his family to my prayer list.

Our sincere and deepest condolences to Mike's family, we were shocked and sorry to get word of his passing.  I had the pleasure of working with Mike for about 15 years, he truly was one of the most knowledgeable individuals in our field of work (U.S. Navy Electronic Warfare).  We often traveled to such places as Honolulu, HI; Seattle, WA; San Diego, CA; Kings Bay, GA and Norfolk, VA to install both hardware and software and provide training on both, additional I often worked with him there at the Submarine Base in Groton, CT.  When I was up in Groton, we would always find time to grab a dinner at either Paul's Pasta or Russell's Ribs.  Mike was a "walking book of knowledge and experience" - the Navy instructors were "always" coming up to him and asking - "...Mr. Lewis, would you please help us with this, or can you explain this to us, or this is broken can you fix it...".  Mike was the sole maintainer of all the electronic equipment used in the Navy's ET Pipeline training school and there where very few times (if any) that he somehow was not able to keep the older equipment up and operational so that no classes had to be canceled, rescheduled or postponed.  He loved swimming (especially in Hawaii and at San Diego) and often told me of his swimming escapades with Scrappy in the lake near his home - he and Scrappy were inseparable.  Our sympathy and prayers to his family and I know he is resting in peace looking down upon us.

Mike was the best friend every father wanted his son to have. He was there for my son when I traveled. He was there for my grandchildren when they had those special questions a grandfather looks forward to and your not there to answer. He was a very special person. I will miss him. Mike was our nearest and dearest friend.  He helped us go through difficult times just by being there.  He was always patient with us and took time to share knowledge with all of us.  Mike was like the neighborhood dog whisperer.  He knew every dog by name and shared treats with all of them on a regular basis.  He had some amazing stories to share with us about his life journey.  Mike never told people how he felt about them, but he had the utmost respect and love for his family.  He was so proud of all of them.  We will miss Mike's daily visits the most.  Our family was deeply honored to have Mike in our lives and part of our family.  Mike will ALWAYS be in our hearts.  He will be missed dearly.  RIP Mike.
